Why does File Stacker ask for a folder?

The app is sandboxed. Choose a folder in the macOS picker to give it access. Some locations remain protected by macOS; an unreadable folder is marked incomplete instead of being counted as confidently empty.

Why didn't moving a file to Trash free space?

Trash still occupies disk space. Only empty it in Finder after checking that you no longer need its contents. File Stacker never empties Trash for you.

How do I put an item back?

Open Recent Removals and choose Put Back. The item must still be at its recorded Trash location, and the original destination must be available. New records also check file identity to avoid restoring a replacement. Existing older records may lack that identity check.

Why are duplicate savings estimates approximate?

Identical files may share storage through APFS clones or hard links; compression also affects allocation. The app's estimate is an upper bound, not a guarantee of recovered space.

How do I protect or skip a folder?

Use the item's Exclusions menu or Settings. Protection blocks removal. Skipping omits the folder's contents from subsequent scans. Review the active rule before making changes.

Why can't the uninstaller find every leftover?

It searches accessible locations and matches bundle identifiers and names. Matching is a heuristic, and ungranted locations cannot be inspected. Review each result before confirming removal.

When do scheduled scans run?

They run while File Stacker is open, including when its menu bar item keeps it running. They stop when the app quits. Launch at login and notifications are optional settings.

What happens to an iCloud file?

Remove Download asks macOS to remove only its downloaded local copy while keeping it in iCloud. Availability depends on your iCloud setup and the selected item.
