Privacy policy
File Stacker analyzes files locally on your Mac. The app does not collect or transmit your files, scan results, or usage data to the developer.
Access you choose
The app reads names, sizes, dates, and other file metadata in folders you grant through the macOS folder picker. Duplicate comparison also reads file contents locally. The App Sandbox and macOS privacy protections limit access; some locations remain unavailable even inside a granted folder.
Data stored on your Mac
- Folder-access bookmarks, display preferences, exclusions, and background-scan settings.
- Scan-history summaries used to compare storage over time.
- Recent removal records, including original and Trash paths, dates, sizes, and file identity information used by Put Back.
- Scheduled-scan times and summaries.
These records are stored in the app's local preferences and Application Support inside its sandbox container. File Stacker has no user account, advertising, tracking, third-party analytics, or direct network access.
Changes made at your request
Confirmed removals move items to the macOS Trash; File Stacker does not delete them permanently or empty Trash. Put Back moves eligible items to their original location. Exports are saved to a location you choose, which may itself be synced by another service.
Remove Download asks macOS to evict an iCloud file's local copy. Apple's iCloud services handle cloud storage and synchronization under your Apple account settings. Opening a support or privacy link uses your browser; contacting support uses your email provider. This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, and GitHub may log technical information such as visitor IP addresses under its own privacy statement. Those external services have their own privacy practices.
Notifications and control
Optional local notifications may include folder names and sizes. You can change notification permission in System Settings. Remove a folder grant using Remove Access in the sidebar, manage exclusions in Settings, and clear listed removal records in Recent Removals. Clearing the removal list does not empty Trash.
Local app data resides under ~/Library/Containers/io.github.shubhamgupta303.filestacker. Removing that container after quitting resets saved app data and grants. It does not remove files you analyzed or exported.
Support and changes
If you email support, your email address and the information you voluntarily provide are used to respond. Do not send passwords or private files. This app policy may be updated as features change; the revision date will be shown here.
